Alex was on TV today! We were at the local museum today, and one of the news had a reporter there talking about the spring break activities that the museum has going on! Today they had a painter there teaching the kids about painting nature. Alex was using colored pencils-her artistic side just wasn’t into paint today! They showed her picture and the back of her head-LOL! The reporter is a little weird-trying to be funny type of weird, KWIM?-and he was ranting about the ‘juxtaposition of her trees and the deer’ Something weird like that. Anyway she was on TV!!!

My new toy
A new Nikon Coolpix s550! It is so neat, it’s my first digital camera so I have a lot to learn. I have a film SLR which I love, but I have been wanting a digital lately, something a bit smaller and easier to carry around. I will still us my film camera for really special moments, but my digital will be easier to carry-it takes some really nice pictures!

I’ll be posting some pictures soon! I want to get more familiar with the camera part of it all before getting into the uploading aspect of it.
Sad news
Now, I’ve already established that I don’t feel quite grown-up around my folks. I don’t want to hear about their grown-up problems (relationship stuff, my dad’s house getting broken into when he was there…that sort of thing.) This past Christmas I had to tell my dad that an old friend of the family that we had lost touch with had passed away a couple of years ago. His daughter contacted me on Facebook, and we have re-kindled our friendship. My dad was upset to hear about her dad, he had tears in his eyes and everything. Well, another daughter of a friend of the family has contacted me on Facebook. Her dad has got a degenerative disease that he will eventually die from, and her sister….her little sister that tortured us and drove us crazy has bowel cancer. And it has spread. I am still having problems dealing with this news. When I have digested it more, I’m going to have to tell my mom and my dad. I hate being grown-up sometimes.
Pictures
Ack! I forgot that I had film at Shopper’s getting developed. I was hoping to have some pics to post tonight from this weekend’s trip to Calgary. Ah well, maybe tomorrow.
Scrapbooking Paper
I took a quick look in Michael’s today for the paper I want. I want to do an Asian-themed page to go with Alex’s fortune that she got. I saw some nice stuff online, but couldn’t find it in the store today. I guess I’ll have to start hunting through some local specialty stores to see what I can find. I’ve got an idea in my head, hopefully I can find stuff to go with it.
Cookies
So, I picked up Martha Stewart’s latest cookbook, all about cookies. Looks so good-thanks Jane!!! The kids were climbing all over me tonight….’Oh, what’s that cookie called? What’s in it? Can you make it tomorrow?’ LOL!!! There’s lots of good looking recipes in there-I think that I will have to try some this week!

XM Radio
Our new car has an XM radio receiver built into it. Hubby and I are debating whether or not to subscribe or just use our money to get better Ipod accesories for the car. I went on my local parent’s website asking if anyone had XM and what they thought, and as usual a judgmental person jumped into my thread and said how it was all just a waste of money and that we should just listen to the radio. Stupid cow. Keep your opinions to yourself, especially when I didn’t ask for them!
You can sign up to a free 3-day online trial to listen to the stations-there’s not as many as I thought there would be, but it seems OK. Still not sure, but I’m liking the Joint station! It’s described as ‘Your daily trip to Jamaica.’ I like it, I think that everyone should listen to a bit of reggae music everyday. Just a bit, and the older the better! Preferably the great Bob, but others will do. A good Ska or dancehall tune will do as well. I thank my uncle Abdul for introducing me to that genre of music. I got more than a few weird looks cruising around town in my parent’s Volvo station wagon blaring Bob Marley and UB40-but it was all fun!!!! Sometimes having a bit of uniqueness in high school is a good thing!
Opps!!!!!
I knew I couldn’t keep it straight. I used princess in a couple of posts when I should have said Sweet Pea. So, I’m outing them. My oldest is Alex, and my youngest is Katie. There-I should have done that from the get-go. I’m lucky I can remember their real names, let alone giving them aliases!
Busy Day
We have a bit of a busy day planned today. I have to get the oil changed in the new car, go to the library, and I’d like to take a run to Costco. After school we’re headed to Michaels’ craft store to see if they have dream catcher kits. One of Princess’s school friends brought one in for show and share, so now she wants one. I’d like to get some scrapbooking stuff too-Princess got a great fortune in her fortune cookie this weekend that I’d like to build a page around. Plus, there’s the hockey game page I need to do also.
Ewww
My Princess can chew her own toenails. I don’t know which feeling is stronger….my disgust at the grossness of chewing your own toenails….or my awe and envy that she can contort herself into doing it with such ease!!!
