T-14 days

Well, we are at t-14 days for the move now.  Holy crap, where’d the time go?  I won’t be on here much for the next little while-I am hoping to get a laptop for the trip cross-Canada so I can update that way, but we’ll see.

Between the warm weather, packing, cleaning, trying to get the kids out to local attractions one last time I won’t have too much time to blog.

I will still be on Facebook and checking emails though, so  you know how to get a hold of me!

Moving Sale!

Well, we had our last moving sale and sold the car all on the same weekend!  I’m glad that we got the car sold, and got what we wanted for it too!  It will be hard going back to being a one-car family again, but I’m within walking distance to the grocery store, and as long as I have things planned in advance I can just drive hubby to work and have the car!  The only thing with that is hubby gets up really early to go to work-too early for my liking!  But, you gotta do what you gotta do!

The moving sale didn’t quite make as much as last time, but I was OK with that-I just wanted it all gone!  I priced everything really cheap and basically took whatever people wanted to offer, so it was much easier.

I had a guy laugh at me and call me an ‘old hippie’ because of my musical tastes!  LOL!!!  I thought that was funny!

Another thing that was funny/shocking happened today after the sale was all done.  Hubby and I loaded the last of the junk to take to the local donation centre, and when we returned the rest of the yard was empty!  My neighbors had come by and taken all the rest of the stuff.  I wouldn’t have cared except that some of the leftover stuff was also for sale online, and some of the stuff had been paid for already!  So, I had to go knocking on doors to track down my stuff.  Luckily another neighbor was out in their drive with their own sale, so they told me who they saw around.  All I cared about was getting the stuff back that had been paid for by/promised to others.  What really pissed me off was that one family tried to blame it all on their little girl, who is 7!  If Alex came home with a crapload of free stuff, including a high chair-I’d be wanting to find out where it came from, and I’d make her return it until I got the full story!  Hubby thinks that they told her to take the stuff and just wanted someone to blame for it.  Poor kid, growing up in that house!

I did get a really nice tripod and tripod head from my neighbor’s moving sale-for $25 bucks!

I just want this to happen already!

I am not a patient person.  Patient with my kids, absolutely.  Patient with my friends and family, for sure!  Patient with customers, yes!

Patient with waiting for a certain date?  No way.  Patient when waiting to hear back from the movers with a specific moving day?  Nope.  Patient when waiting to have another garage sale (I’m a sucker for punishment, yes I am!) Nope!  It’s getting so close yet so far!  I just want to blink my eyes and have it happen!

Times are so tight, money is so tight, I’m just nervous that it won’t all fit together properly!!!

Ugh

I have a killer headache, and I’m nauseous.  I feel so gross.  This is why I don’t like taking the birth control pill.  My Dr convinced me at my last checkup that the BC method that we were using was not effective at all-which I knew already.  Course, hubby has been ’seriously considering’ the big V for about 4 years now, so it’s up to me to take the pill.  Stupid hormones messing with my body!  I feel horrible!  I’m even on a really low-dose pill, and it’s still doing me in!  Seriously, if I didn’t know any better I’d say I was in the early stages of pregnancy!  But I’m not…..so don’t start freaking out!  LOL!

Regional Food

So, inevitably, when we talk about moving back to NS, hubby and I always talk about the food.  Mmmmm, food.

There is the normal seafood that I look forward to.  Lobster, crab, scallops, haddock, all that good stuff.  What makes it even better, is that my Step-dad does work for a local dock, and they often give him the fresh stuff right off the boat!  With hubby working away, I’ll make those girls seafood lovers in no time.  The seafood however you can get just about anywhere.  Through the magic of hi-speed shipping, you can get fresh seafood here in Edmonton!  Although, when I became an adult and saw that people ate lobsters in restaurants, and fancy ones at that, I was shocked.  My family, no word of a lie, turns into a bunch of ravenous animals when they have a feed of lobster.  First is the layer of garbage bags on the table, then comes a layer of newspaper to soak up all the juices.  Then, usually one of my aunts will also fashion a bib of sorts from the garbage bags.  Then the hammers and pliers come out and get sterilized.  Then the frenzy begins.  No buns, coleslaw, or potatoes as sides for my family!  It’s strictly the lobster and butter.  Every bit of the lobster gets eaten.  Every single bit, even the green stuff.  My brother and I would dip the little legs in butter and suck the juice out.  Seriously, could you imagine my family at a fancy restaurant eating lobster???  Neither could I!

Nope, the food that we really crave is the fast food, if you want to call it that.  Donairs, donair pizza, pizza flips, pizza in general!  Homemade bread from a hole-in-the-wall bakery, Tatamagouche butter, BBQs at my aunts’ house, I could go on and on!  We’re going to have to do a lot of swimming to work all those calories off!!  I can’t wait!  :)

Finally!

After watching Discovery channels ‘Dirty Jobs’ for years, he finally did a job that I have done!  Tonight’s show he cleaned out a deep fryer.  Nasty job, one of the dirtiest I’ve done!  Not the dirtiest that I’ve seen him done, but it was cool that I knew what he was doing first hand!

Small things entertain small minds~It’s true!!!!

Grrrr……

So I am friends with hubby’s half-sister on Facebook. We’ve known each other for years, and her and hubby have gotten along really well and known each other for years. They have the same father, but different moms. The dad was out of sis’s life until she was about ten or so, at which time the dad and her mom hooked back up and stayed together, having 2 more kids. During those ten years, he fathered my hubby, and at least 3 other children-none of which he is involved with. I’ve never met the man-I’ve probably seen him around, it is a small town that we are from after all, but I’ve never been able to put a face to the name. Until today.

Hubby’s half-sister commented on a picture of their dad and her mom-I can now see the picture and the mans face. I wish I could comment on the picture, I wish I could reach into the computer and smack the man in the face. I never realized that I could feel so much hatred for a picture of a person before. I have always been bothered by the situation, more so than hubby. He had a great childhood-his mom is a saint that was both mom and dad to him-she taught him how to shave! His grandparents were really involved, he had lots of aunts and uncles around too, he never felt he missed out by not having his dad there. Which he didn’t-he was probably much better off without his dad.

I guess what bothers me most about the whole thing is how easy it was for this man to walk away from not just one child, but four! Maybe the other moms involved didn’t allow visiting, didn’t want him around at all, but hubby’s mother was always willing and open for the dad and his family to be involved. It was their choice not to be. I just look at my wonderful husband, my beautiful children and am angry that someone out there who is related by blood has made the choice not to be involved with them.

Busy Day

Busy day planned for today, but since I have no desire to actually get up and do anything, here I am.  The kids are going to a BBQ today, and I’ve got a 101 things to do while they are gone with my MIL.

One of the things I need to do is get a haircut, with a new stylist which I am not very please about.  Once I find a good stylist-and it takes me a while!-I like to stick with them.  I was really hoping to see Chrissy once more before I moved, maybe I’ll go for a quick trim right before we go.  I hope that I don’t have a hard time finding someone when we move, this haircut is kind of high-maintenance cutting wise.

I think that I’ll make Sunday our garage-sale prep day.  After, we can borrow a page from Jane’s book and go out in the evening to a local park for a BBQ and some s’mores!  Sounds good to me!

Too hot

Ugh, it has been too hot here lately. Too hot to do anything, and we’ve got a bazillion things to do for the move.

Weather like this really makes me happy that we are moving. When you live in a condo/townhouse there’s not a whole lot to do in order to cool off that doesn’t involve spending money or being around big crowds of people. It’s not like we have a yard where we can put a pool or a sprinkler or anything. There’s just so much to do in order to cool off when you live near the ocean. For one thing, the weather doesn’t normally get this hot-although when it does it’s horrible because of the humidity involved too. There’s usually a nice breeze, so even just being near the water can cool you off. Then there’s the obvious-swimming! The ocean is pretty cold, so even just a quick dip into the water can be so refreshing!

Today it feels a bit cooler though, so I think we will go  to a local splash park and let the kids run wild, come back here and relax for a bit, then head out to watch the Canada day fireworks.
