Today’s bad mommy award goes to….

….me!

Alex had her first sleep-over at a friend’s house last night.  She was really nervous, but equally excited.  When I dropped her off, she ran off to play with her friends and have fun at the birthday party.  She came back for a kiss and a hug, and said she would be fine.

Katie and I came home and watched a movie with snacks, and had a little sleep-over of our own.  I let her sleep in my bed, so we both laid down together at 9PM, with me having the fullest intentions of getting up after she fell asleep. Well, soon enough we were both snoring.

This morning after I had my regular phone conversation with Shawn-he’s in Fort Mac-I realized that I had a VoiceMail.  She called last night-twice!  I almost cried!  I called her friend’s house right away, and it turns out that it was not serious, she just wanted to say goodnight.  I feel so bad!  She didn’t care though, she laughed when I told her that Katie and I were snoring so loud I couldn’t hear the phone.

Mental note-next time she is sleeping at a friend’s house, I’ll put the phone next to my bed!

My nephew.

My nephew who is less than nine months old has developed a lump on his leg.  It is not painful to him, the Dr originally thought that it was a hematoma from his immunization needles.  Well, now it’s getting red.  The dr. has put him on antibiotics thinking that it is an infection, and she has drawn a circle around it and said if the redness or swelling goes beyond that circle to bring him in right away.  My sister in law is a nurse, so I’m confident that he will be watched like a hawk, but I’m still panicking.  Poor little guy, I wonder what it is?  And, what is the next step if the antibiotics don’t get rid of it?

One of my new year’s resolutions

Is to go back to school, and also to find after-school care for my girls!  The state of daycare/preschool/afterschool care is deplorable here!  My youngest has been on waiting lists for any day of preschool since September.  I had one place call me, and I was ready to accept over the phone.  When I checked it out however, there was something about the place I just didn’t like.

None of the daycares here offer after-school programs, the school that the girls will be going to doesn’t have anything either.  I am looking at using the daycare on campus, but that is an hour round trip for me.  So, if I have the bad luck of having a course after they get out of school, I may have to make the trip to campus 2 times on those days (drive over for class, drive back to pick up the kids, drive to campus again, then drive home for the day).  Blagh.  This is going to be my mission for the year-find a local sitter/afterschool care for my kids!!!

Today.

Today was a productive day-not so much on the talking over the move issue-more on the cleaning out our junk and getting ready for a garage sale productive. Man, we have got a lot of junk! I hope we do well on the garage sale next week. It’s down to the wire now about getting it all ready. I made Katie’s cake for tomorrow, and the house is all clean so all we have to do is get the food ready. Should be a good time, and the weather looks like it will be nice.

I’ve been thinking about my sister-in-law today. She’s due to give birth to her 3rd this week, and the poor thing has been measuring bigger than expected for the last couple of months. Usually, the measurement of your belly is the same as the number of weeks into the pregnancy (neat huh???). She has been measuring 2 and sometimes 3 cm bigger for a while now. She has people stopping her in malls and at the grocery stores, and then comment about her size, ask her if she’s having twins, etc. Apparently all the women in her family have progressively bigger babies, and bigger pregnancies, and the same is ringing true now. I’ll have to phone them tomorrow, maybe my thoughts of her mean she’s in labor!!!

ETA:  I wanted to add that she’s not a big girl either, she’s a little slip of a thing, which makes her look like she’s carrying even more!

Birthday Party

So, life must go on, and my princess Katie turned 4 this week.  On Sunday we’re having a few friends and their kids over, along with my MIL and maybe a family friend-it’s kind of early in the day for him though, especially on a Sunday!  We’re just going to have munchies and a small BBQ, and I am going to make another ice cream cake!  This afternoon I made the cookies, but I tossed in a half cup of peanut butter to the batter.  I just found a recipe on Martha’s website for Peanut Sauce, so I think I’m going to have both chocolate fudge and peanut sauces with maybe just a good vanilla icecream-no need to overload things.  Plus if I fiddle with things too much I won’t know where I went wrong!

I’m half tempted to start making and selling them-they are pretty easy and are really good!  I’d just have to work out the cost analysis of the whole thing.

Help me decide?

So, I’ve decided to make a 6×6 chipboard album for Alex’s teacher. It’s an album that you buy plain, cover it with paper, ribbons, flowers, all those things. I want to do one style-flowery, bright, feminine, what you typically see when you look at the albums. Alex wants to do a school-themed one, with bright primary colors, stickers and rub-ons of apples, books, school-type things. I already have all the stuff to do my theme. Alex’s all I have is some paper, and a couple of sheets of stickers. I can see the beauty in both-in my mind’s eye they both look really nice. Only I have all the gear for one, and will need to buy a lot more for the other.

Which one should I do?

Ugh

Time to tackle the toyroom today.  It’s been so bad lately that the kids won’t even go in there.  I’ve just piled everything up in the middle and I’ll sort them from there.  A toyroom without a set plan for cleaning/organizing in place is a bad idea in this house!

My Funny Girl….

Today at the Dr’s office, Katie noticed a gate blocking off a hallway….she of course wanted to know why the gate was there and what the sign said.  “No admittance…Private offices”  After telling her what the sign said and what it meant, she looked at her hands and said ‘I have no mittens on’  Course I laughed my ass off….she got angry and asked me again what the sign meant.  I explained it again, and she said ‘But I don’t have mittens on’.  I just shook my head and said ‘It means you can’t go in there….doesn’t matter if you have mittens on or not’.
