So, I get a call from a friend today. She’s upset (understandably so) because her little one is extremely sick. She’s decided to take her to the local children’s Emergency, and her van won’t start! So, I hop into my trusty new Equinox, ready to ride in and save the day with a boost. We pop the hood, and look at each other-stupefied. Now, we’re 2 smart chicks. She’s been boosting her pesky van for a couple of weeks-it’s having trouble with the cold-and I’ve boosted a couple of dead batteries in my lifetime. I have no idea where the battery is. When we figure it out, we realize there’s a cover over it. We pop the cover, and are even more confused. It looks nothing like a battery should look. My friend phones her hubby for advice, and he decides to leave work for the day-he’s too worried about his little one to do much work anyway. Problem solved, she’ll use his car or else boost from his battery. Course, there was no manual with the car when we bought it, it’s still on order-that would be too easy!
But the engine looks nothing like an engine should look like. It’s clean for one thing, you could eat lunch off the manifold. I have no idea where the manifold is, but I like the word, so that’s what I’ll use. There are so many wires and electrical-computery things that I am a little worried what will happen if it ever breaks down. This is not even closely related to the engine that I watched my dad work on when I was a kid-it looks like a totally different being entirely! This is not a vehicle that you would fix in your driveway on a Saturday afternoon, which means money-lots of money to get it fixed. Touch wood that it doesn’t break down-ever!!!
